This page explains how to delete your Sously account and all associated data. The instructions apply identically to the Android and iOS versions of Sously.
In-app deletion (recommended)
The fastest, most thorough way is from inside the app:
- Open Sously.
- Tap Settings (gear icon) → Account & Sync.
- Tap Delete account.
- Read the confirmation screen carefully — it lists exactly what gets removed.
- Type
DELETEin the confirmation field, then tap Permanently delete.
This deletes your account immediately. There is no recovery window — if you change your mind after pressing Permanently delete, you’ll need to start over with a new account.
Email-channel deletion (lost device, locked out, etc.)
If you can’t open the app — phone lost, account locked, signed out and forgot the password — email [email protected] with the subject line:
Sously account deletion
Include the email address tied to your Sously account in the body. We respond within 30 days, typically much sooner. We may ask you to verify ownership (reply from the registered email; provide last-4 of any subscription transaction id) before we delete to prevent malicious deletion attempts.
What gets deleted
When you delete your account, we permanently remove:
- Your Sously account in Firebase Authentication (your sign-in record)
- Your cloud-synced library — recipes, pantry, meal plans, shopping lists, templates, categories, tags, and cookbooks
- AI-generated recipe images stored under your account
- Your monthly AI usage history and quota counters
- Your local Sously library on the device where you trigger deletion
- Your subscription record in our billing provider, RevenueCat
If you’re in a shared 2-person household: only your membership leaves the household. Your partner keeps every recipe, pantry item, meal plan, and shopping list. They will lose Pro access if they were relying on your subscription, but they keep all your shared cooking data.
What does NOT get deleted automatically
Your Sously Pro subscription does not cancel automatically. Subscriptions live with the store you purchased through (Google or Apple), not with us — we can’t cancel them on your behalf, and account deletion does not stop renewals. If you have an active subscription, you must cancel it separately:
- Android (Google Play): open the Play Store app → tap your profile photo → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Sously → Cancel subscription. Or visit play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions on the web.
- iOS (App Store): open Settings → tap [your name] at the top → Subscriptions → Sously → Cancel Subscription. (Alternatively, open the App Store app → tap your profile photo top-right → Subscriptions.)
- Mac: open App Store → click your name (bottom-left) → Account Settings → scroll to Subscriptions → Manage → Sously → Cancel.
We do not issue refunds for payments made before deletion. Cancel your subscription before deleting your account if you want to avoid further charges. On Apple, refund requests go through Apple directly at reportaproblem.apple.com; on Google, refund requests go through the Play Store entry above.
Data we retain after deletion
We retain the following anonymized records as required by law or platform policy:
- Crashlytics crash reports (Firebase, default 90-day retention) — contains device model, OS, stack trace, but no personally-identifiable information from your account.
- Aggregate usage metrics (no per-user breakdown) — total request counts to our AI proxy, deidentified.
We do not retain your email, recipes, photos, or any other personal data after deletion is complete.
